These high school sweethearts moved to New York from California a few years ago, and wanted their first "adult" apartment to reflect their former beachy oasis. In just two months, we transformed their blank canvas into this bright, cozy, and organic space. It's the perfect hangout for Super Bowl parties, dinner with friends, and cuddling with their two kitties Enzo and Little Murray Sparkles.
This couple loves furniture and accessories with history and character. Their living room features an over-dyed vintage Oriental rug from Turkey; a silver leather pouf from Morocco; and one-of-a-kind mud-cloth, indigo, and vintage Hmong batik pillows. A hand carved teak-wood hand chair in the office nook is Murray's favorite spot to hang out. The dining table is live edge teak with natural steel hairpin legs. An oceanic aerial photograph by Gray Malin and a sky blue acrylic pendant add whimsy.
In the bedroom, John Baldessari silk-screened pillowcases add personality to fresh white bedding. Two gold orb sconces hang over darling walnut and marble nightstands. A vintage shaggy Beni Ourain provides softness and pattern. The vintage spring-loaded teak dresser holds a pinboard world map and a cobalt blue glass lamp.
